School for International Training is pleased to announce that Peace Corps CEO Carol Spahn will be the keynote speaker at SIT Graduate Institute’s 56th commencement ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 13, on the SIT campus. The ceremony celebrates the completion of master’s degrees by 54 students in nine SIT program areas.
- Commencement will be live-streamed on the SIT Graduate Institute Facebook page
Ms. Spahn will also speak later that day during the dedication of a new historical marker on campus. The marker denotes SIT’s origins as one of the first institutions to train outbound Peace Corps volunteers starting in the early 1960s.
Ms. Spahn’s roots in the Peace Corps extend back to her service as a volunteer from 1994 to 1996 in Romania. As CEO, she brings more than 25 years of public- and private-sector experience and has worked in countries around the world on issues ranging from small business development to infectious disease prevention and women's empowerment. She has served as the Peace Corps chief of operations in Eastern and Southern Africa, and as the country director of Peace Corps/Malawi.
School for International Training and World Learning this year are celebrating the 90th anniversary of their founding. Both grew out of the Experiment in International Living, an intercultural exchange program launched in 1932.
