SIT is a nonprofit educational institution and was founded in 1964 as the School for International Training. SIT is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.). SIT Graduate Institute is a member of the Windham Higher Education Cooperative, a consortium of six higher education institutions with a presence in Windham County, Vermont.
