Mariama earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Columbus State University in 2012 and a master’s degree in intercultural and international communication from American University in 2025, where she also served as a research assistant and held leadership positions on student-led organizations. Her academic interests focus on engagement between the African continent and the African diaspora and global media, cultural diplomacy, and popular culture with regards to the African diaspora.
Mariama has been working in the nonprofit space for over a decade, having taken on various roles including childcare, summer camp counselor, tutor, and executive assistant. Additionally, she is a returned Peace Corps literacy volunteer from Grenada. She is also an independent author of speculative fiction and a writer and editor. She has written articles covering topics including mental health and self-development. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time in nature.
