Careemah Choong, PhD

Careemah Choong has a PhD in business administration from Asia e University in Malaysia, an MBA from University of the People in the U.S., an MEd in Teaching English as a Second Language from Wawasan Open University, Malaysia, and a post-graduate diploma and diplomas in TESL from London Teacher Training College and Cambridge University in the UK. She is a certified Cambridge Speaking Examiner.

She has been building her career in the Saudi Arabia education sector for the past 15 years. During her time there, she was actively involved in causes that champion the development of teaching and learning. She served as co-chair of the Saudi Arabia Language Teacher’s Association affiliate to TESOL Arabia and IATEFL in 2015, and as treasurer of Al Khobar from 2013-15. She is currently co-chair for the 5th International Conference on Management, Engineering, Science and Humanities, which takes place in August 2020.

She is a returning expert under Malaysia’s Talent Corporation’s Returning Expert Program.

In addition to education, her interests include hospitality. She and her sister started a small 12-room budget hotel that grew to a 50-room, three-star hotel within three years. She also serves as chief operating officer for a venture capital firm.

Prior to joining SIT, she was director of training, research, and development with Smart Reader Worldwide, a preschool franchise.
