Anna Hixson, MA

Anna moved to Ísafjörður, Iceland, in 2017 to pursue her master’s degree in marine and coastal management at the University Centre of the Westfjords. Her research while in the program assessed the distribution of heavy metal pollution in the Westfjords of Iceland. Anna grew up in Seattle, Washington, but moved to Lugano, Switzerland, for university. There, she completed her undergraduate degree in environmental science at Franklin University Switzerland. While at Franklin, she acted as an orientation leader for incoming and study abroad students, a resident advisor, the student representative for the center for sustainability initiatives, and a research assistant for the Environmental Science department. She additionally studied abroad in Far North Queensland, Australia, looking at the impacts of tourism on rainforest conservation and management. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, swimming, traveling, and reading.
