Apply to an IHP/Comparative Program

There are no specific academic prerequisites for admission. IHP students in all programs have come from numerous academic disciplines, including economics, biology, anthropology, environmental studies, public health, engineering, philosophy, art, urban studies, international relations, sociology, history, and religion. Students must be at least 18 years of age and preferably have completed two or more years of college prior to the start of the program. Most participants are enrolled at a university/college or are recent graduates, but others are welcome to apply.

All applicants should demonstrate maturity and the motivation and ability to participate in an academically challenging program featuring comparative study of the program theme. The admissions committee strives to select students who will be the best possible match for the program. Applications are evaluated in part on the student's ability to articulate and demonstrate interest in the program theme. The International Honors Program does not discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, race, color, age, religion, national origin, or disability.

Deadlines:
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the closing deadlines. We recommend applying as soon as possible and well before the closing date, as programs may fill early. In some cases, there may be space available beyond the closing deadlines; you should contact IHP if you are interested in applying after these dates.

Closing deadline for spring programs is October 1.
Closing deadline for fall and full-year programs is March 15.

Application:
The IHP application is a combination of written materials (essays, transcript, recommendations, etc.) and an informal interview. Applicants will be contacted for an interview when all written materials (items 1-11) are received by IHP. After the interview, the admissions committee will review the complete application.

Financial Aid:
Those interested in applying for a financial aid should submit their financial aid application early, as funds are limited. Please see our Financial Aid page for more information about financial aid.

Decisions:
Admissions decisions are usually made within a month of application completion. Accepted students will receive preparatory information, such as the IHP Student Handbook and a series of bulletins prior to departure. These materials will include guidelines regarding immunizations, visas, packing, readings, etc.

Passport Note
You must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the program ends. If you do not, you should apply for one at once.
