Educational Excursions

Sorvilán

The program includes field-based activities and educational excursions outside Granada. The excursions give students experiential learning opportunities in different areas of Spain and also in Morocco.

Excursions in Spain may include:

  • Madrid, Toledo, or Segovia (four days during the orientation period). Students visit the most relevant sites related to Spain’s artistic and historical legacy. Field-based exercises are part of the orientation activities.
  • Cordoba and Seville (three days). During the Andalusian Studies Seminar, students visit and report on some of the most significant Hispanic-Muslim sites in the cities of Cordoba and Seville.
  • Sorvilán (three days). Students attend an on-site lecture on sustainable development and the agricultural greenhouse industry. The lecture is held at a rural house in Sorvilán in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Morocco

Morocco (five days)
Forging an intercultural bridge between three cultures - American, Spanish, and Moroccan
Students undertake a five-day academic excursion to Morocco to discover the roots of the Andalusian Legacy they have witnessed in Andalusia, particularly in Granada. The excursion reveals to students the immigration phenomena from the "other side" of the Spanish Peninsula. Students experience Moroccan culture firsthand, which has a strong presence not only in Granada but throughout Spain. Through this excursion, students establish meaningful relationships with Moroccan students and families.

Students visit cities and towns throughout northern Morocco, such as Tanger, Tetuan, Asilah, Belouta, and Chefchouen. The Morocco excursion is conducted in collaboration with Preference Voyages, the Mediterranean Forum for Childhood and Youth, the Dar Loughat Center, and other local NGOs.
