Studying Abroad and Financial Aid

Each year, SIT Study Abroad awards approximately $750,000 in scholarships and grants for study on SIT programs. We encourage all SIT Study Abroad applicants to review our diverse scholarship offerings.

Financial aid from all other sources is awarded and processed by a student’s home institution.

Wondering where to start? Talk with your home school’s study abroad and financial aid advisors.

You should contact the financial aid office at your home institution to learn if your school’s scholarships and grants, as well as its federal and state aid programs, will be applied to your SIT program. Each college and university establishes its own policies for applying financial aid to study abroad. SIT works closely with the financial aid and study abroad offices of each student’s home institution to coordinate the financial resources available for a student’s SIT experience.

Remember to ask about the financial aid consortium agreement. If your home institution requires SIT to complete a financial aid consortium agreement, please contact your financial aid office and request that they forward their institutional consortia form to SIT Study Abroad (scholarships.studyabroad@sit.edu or fax to 802 258-3296) prior to your program’s application deadline

It is each student’s responsibility to understand the policies of his or her home institution and to follow their designated procedures related to financial aid and study abroad in a timely manner.

National scholarships and other funding sources

Be sure to investigate national scholarships and any other funding for which you may be eligible. If you receive scholarship or grant support from a private source such as a local service organization or community group, you should contact that provider directly to determine if these funds may be used for your study abroad experience.

Questions? Don’t hesitate to contact the SIT Study Abroad Financial Aid Office (studyabroad.scholarships@sit.edu or 802 258-3503) with any questions. Please remember that an essential first step in the funding process is to consult your home school’s study abroad and financial aid advisors.
