SIT Study Abroad Admissions Process
SIT Study Abroad welcomes applications from undergraduate students who:
- are in good academic standing at any college or university
- have completed at least one year of college-level coursework at the time of application for semester programs, or at least one to three semesters of college-level work at the time of application for summer programs.
- have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
- meet program specific prerequisites (available on program-specific web pages or in the catalog).
The admissions committee strives to select students who will be the best possible match for a program. All applicants should submit strong academic references and demonstrate a consistent academic record, clear motivation to study abroad, solid reasoning for their program choice, and an understanding of the program model.
SIT Study Abroad has rolling admissions, which means that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis between the opening and closing dates of the program. Applications will not be acknowledged or reviewed prior to the opening dates. Many programs fill long before the published closing dates, so please be sure to submit your application early.
Applications must be complete to be reviewed for admission. This means that transcripts, recommendations, and any additional required materials must all be received in a timely fashion.
Opening Dates:
- January 15 for fall and summer programs
- April 15 for spring programs.
Applications received prior to the opening date will be reviewed after the opening date has passed. Information on application status will not be available until after the opening date for the term under review. Students, advisors, or faculty are welcome to check on application status after the opening date.
- May 1: For Brazil, Kenya, and Tanzania
- May 15: For all other programs
Spring Semester Closing Dates:
- November 1 for all programs
Summer Program Closing Dates:
- April 1 for all summer programs
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure the timely arrival of all application materials and that an application will not be considered until it is complete.
We encourage you to contact our office early to discuss your program choice and begin planning your study abroad experience. We anticipate programs will continue to fill early, and we recommend applying close to the opening dates. You should also specify a second-choice program.
You must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the program ends. If you do not, you should apply for one at once, even before you complete your SIT Study Abroad application. Passport and Visa Information.
