Elizabeth Langston, Ph.D., Academic Director
Elizabeth Langston first traveled to the Middle East in 1992, when she received a Fulbright Scholarship for a year of Arabic language study in Jordan. Upon her return to the US, she worked for two large Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti training programs, followed by a short stint working in Saudi Arabia. She completed a B.A. in political science at Georgetown College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science (comparative politics and international relations) from the University of Kentucky.  Her dissertation examined the ways in which Islamist political parties utilized tribal networks to mobilize voters in Jordan and Yemen, with her field research funded by a three-year National Science Foundation Fellowship. She taught courses in comparative politics, Middle Eastern studies, and gender and development at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University before going to Oman, where, for three years, she served as the academic director of the SIT Study Abroad Oman program on Political Culture and Development.  Prior to assuming this role, she served as SIT's academic manager for Middle East programs.

Abdullah Al-Hashmi, Associate Director
Abdullah has a master's degree in finance and accounting from Queensland University in Australia. He is the Director of Investments and Revenue at the Ministry of Municipalities, where he oversees local investment projects across the country and has been a frequent guest lecturer at local colleges. He will direct the program's thematic seminar series and guide students with their ISP projects.
