SIT Graduate Institute’s supportive, diverse, and community-focused learning and living environment is designed to help all students achieve their academic potential. Approximately 25 percent of SIT’s student body is international students, who come from more than 30 countries. Virtually all SIT graduate students have experienced living in a culture other than their own. The Office of Campus Life, through the Division of Student Affairs, provides co-curricular support through a wide range of services and activities, including:

In addition to coursework delivered on our campuses in Brattleboro, Vermont, and Washington, DC, students may have the opportunity to study and/or work in other World Learning centers and offices around the world, including in Oman, Ethiopia, and the Balkans.
SIT Campus in Brattleboro, Vermont
SIT’s 200-acre campus in Brattleboro, Vermont, is home to SIT Graduate Institute programs, World Learning, SIT Study Abroad, and The Experiment in International Living administrative offices. Each year, about half of the student body lives in residences on campus. Campus resources include residence halls, a dining hall, an internationally focused library, technology and media services, and a shuttle bus to downtown Brattleboro.
The Brattleboro Community
Located just three miles from the SIT campus, Brattleboro is an eclectic, dynamic, and civically engaged community. Brattleboro’s residents are a mix of native Vermonters and individuals who have moved to the area from around the world. The town features more amenities than most towns its size, including bookstores, coffee shops, art galleries, a wide variety of restaurants, and an award-winning food co-op. It also has a restored art deco theater that features both movies and live performances, and a world-class music center. Brattleboro also hosts a number of annual festivals and is a hub for skiing, hiking, river rafting, canoeing and kayaking, and lots more. SIT’s Brattleboro location is within driving distance of a number of major metropolitan centers, including Boston, Montreal, and New York City. SIT Campus in Washington, DC
Conveniently located in the center of the US capital, SIT Graduate Institute’s site in Washington, DC, is home to the Master of Arts in Sustainable Development: International Policy and Management, and to World Learning’s International Development and Exchange Programs. Students have access to World Learning’s professional development staff and to experts from other organizations and agencies based in Washington, DC, including speakers, guest lecturers, mentors, and project supervisors, as well as other learning resources.
The Washington, DC, Community
Washington, DC, is a world-class city. In addition to housing the US federal government, Washington is home to more than 150 foreign embassies and the headquarters of numerous development-related organizations, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Pan American Health Organization. Washington has a diverse population, a high-quality public transportation system, and a wide array of outstanding restaurants. In addition to its many well-known monuments and world-renowned museums, including the Smithsonian, the city has a unique history that features events ranging from the Civil War to the civil rights movement. The area also offers many outdoor activities, from rafting on the Potomac to hiking the Billy Goat Trail to biking and horseback riding. Although Washington, DC, is within driving distance of several major cities, Amtrak’s Acela Express makes a car unnecessary, as it runs from Washington’s Union Station to New York City in under three hours and provides quick links to nearby Baltimore and Philadelphia.
