Graduate Certificate in International Education

A flexible path to career advancement

Vermont campus

SIT's Graduate Certificate in International Education is an ideal program for professionals looking to establish a strong foundation and understanding of the field of international education. The program’s low-residency, one-year format enables students to stay in their current jobs and communities while acquiring the theoretical knowledge and professional competencies they identify as critical to their career development.

The 19-credit curriculum follows the same sequence as the first year of SIT's low-residency MA in International Education program.

Flexible start dates
Students can begin the certificate program in either January or June. Following an initial launch and course intensives completed on the SIT campus in Vermont, the majority of coursework is then completed online.

Program sequence:

  • Two weeks on SIT’s campus in Vermont (in either January or June)
  • Online coursework (for approximately 11 months)
  • Final project

This program is popular with international education professionals who have a master’s degree in another field and are looking to increase their understanding of international education, as well as with individuals seeking a one-year, low-residency program. Students who successfully complete the certificate program can easily continue with SIT’s low-residency master’s program in international education if they so choose.

While current experience in the field of international education is typically expected for the Graduate Certificate program, previous or anticipated experience may be considered.
