As a member of the national leadership team for NAFSA: Association of International Educators, I often meet with international education professionals from around the world. One of the comments I hear most often is the challenge that working professionals have to remain current with changing trends in the field or to respond to new expectations on the job. Some have graduated from a master’s program several years ago and find that they need to update skills and knowledge. Others who are experienced education administrators may not know where to start the task of internationalizing their school’s curriculum.

My SIT colleagues and I knew that these individuals would be unable to commit to a full academic year of residential coursework in SIT’s on campus MA in International Education due to professional, family or other obligations. But we still wanted to offer them an opportunity to access the same high-quality curriculum, professional faculty and staff, program resources, and global connections. After involving our colleagues from across the organization in a highly participatory planning process, we are delighted to launch a new series of low-residency programs designed for working professionals.

Our new low-residency programs provide a flexible and customized way to access SIT’s trademark international education experience. Participants come to SIT’s campus for two-week sessions in June and take the rest of their courses online, taking advantage of online course tools such as Webinars and podcasting. An optional overseas component provides an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in the field and gain international exposure.

SIT’s low-residency programs offer an innovative way to advance your career as an international educator while remaining connected to your profession and community.
