VISTA Benefits and Scholarships
Members, who must be US citizens 18 years or older, serve full-time for at least one year. They receive an annual living allowance that averaged approximately $9,036 in fiscal 2001. Members also receive health coverage, childcare allowance, and liability insurance. a choice of the $4,725 education award or a $1,200 stipend upon successful completion of service. A cadre of members serves between eight and ten weeks in the Summer Associate program.
Qualified VISTA alumni who wish to enter an SIT’s master’s degree program after the completion of their service will receive:
- An SIT Community Service Award of $1,000
- Special consideration for a $10,000 AmeriCorps Scholarship (two or more awarded annually)
