Janaki Natarajan holds a doctorate in the sociology of education and policy. Born in Bangalore, South India, she has worked with the Sarvodaya and southern African liberation movements. Her teaching and research experience includes extensive work in China, India, and Tanzania, where she taught at the University of Dar Es Salaam and in Washington, DC, where she taught in Lorton Prison, in the public schools, and at the University of the District of Columbia. Natarajan currently works with public schools on race and class issues, serves as a teacher-trainer, and teaches Dalit children at the Bapagrama Educational Centre in Bangalore. A founder of Educational Praxis, Natarajan teaches Culture Theories and Practice, Social Change, and courses in gender issues.
