Suhas Ketkar is a recognized expert on emerging markets of Asia, Latin America, and Europe. He has recently concluded a five-year term as professor of economics at Vanderbilt University. Previously, he worked as a financial economist and strategist for twenty-five years with several Wall Street firms including RBS Greenwich Capital, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Marine Midland Bank. He was also director of sovereign research at Fidelity Investments. He has acted as a consultant to the World Bank on several occasions.
While Suhas has published widely on many diverse topics in economics, his current research is focused on innovative market-based ways of raising development finance. These include securitization of future hard currency receivables such as workers’ remittances, diaspora bonds, and growth-indexed financing instruments. In 2009, he co-edited the book Innovative Financing for Development for the World Bank. He holds a PhD in economics from Vanderbilt University.
