Laurie Black received her M.A. from the School for International Training (SIT) and a B.A. in Sociology and Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Virginia. After an initial career in social services and research, Ms. Black entered the field of international education as a study abroad advisor at the University of Vermont. She joined SIT Study Abroad in 1993 as an admissions counselor, became the Director of Admissions, and is now the Dean for External Relations and Strategic Enrollment Management for SIT Study Abroad, SIT Graduate Institute, and The Experiment in International Living.
Her areas of responsibility include university relations, admissions, marketing, financial aid, and grants management. Ms. Black is a member of NAFSA, served as the Vermont state representative, and has been a presenter on numerous panels and workshops at regional and national conferences. She is also a member of the Forum on Education Abroad, AIEA, AACRAO, and CASE. Ms. Black has lived in New Zealand and Australia for two years and traveled extensively in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, and the South Pacific.
